Mihá, meaning "proud," is a bilingual cultural festival in Hamarøy. The festival showcases a variety of cultural expressions such as music, visual arts, theater, storytelling, literature, and nature experiences to convey the story of the people living in Hábmer-Hamarøy.
In Hamarøy, we celebrate the Sámi National Day on February 6 with flag raising, the Sámi people's anthem, music, dance, and speeches. The celebration takes place at various locations across the municipality.

Måske dåjma – Musken activities organizes a week of activities in Musken including duodji (Sámi handicraft) workshops, gáhkko baking, a hiking competition, soccer school, lectures, and a café. A gathering point where Lule Sámi language, culture, and traditions are central. People from different generations, villages, fjord arms, and ethnicities come together to build relationships and create memories. The week concludes with the MåsskeCup soccer tournament.

Hamarøy Municipality, in Lule Sami Hábmera suohkan, is located in the northern part of Nordland county, with more than 2,700 residents. The municipality spans 2,812 km², with 2,013 km² of land and 799 km² of sea area, bordering Narvik and Sweden to the northeast and Sørfold and Steigen to the southwest. The coastline is deeply indented with fjords, peninsulas, and islands, while the highest mountains border Narvik and Sørfold, including Bjørntoppen (1,520 meters above sea level) and Gasskatjåhkkå (1,517 meters above sea level).

We boast great facilities like a sports hall and swimming pools, with modest fees in sports. This way, we aim to make offerings accessible. Moreover, we probably have the world’s best culture school – Kulturskole, where about half of all children in the municipality are members, which gives them the opportunity to express themselves creatively.
With kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, as well as the Lule Sami-speaking kindergarten Viejega and a Montessori school, a diverse range of educational opportunities are available in Hamarøy.

Hábmera suohkan – Hamarøy Municipality is Norway’s only municipality with the status of a Lule Sami language administration municipality. This status entails an extraordinary responsibility to preserve and strengthen the Lule Sami language and culture – a commitment that is a high priority across all municipal sectors. Árran Lule Sami Center plays a pivotal role as a Lule Sami institution within the municipality. It employs 11 staff members daily within the foundation, and it also rents office spaces to entities like the Sami Parliament, NRK Sápmi, Statped, Nord University, and Sámi Allaskuvla Sami University College. The center also features exhibitions, a museum, and engaging cultural and academic content.
